Overview
Taylor Wimpey is preparing an outline application for a landscape led residential scheme within the Village of Stowupland. At the time of the consultation the site was a draft allocation in the emerging Babergh & Mid Suffolk Joint Local Plan.
What we did
As part of the initial round of consultation undertaken by Taylor Wimpey, we hosted an accessible and inclusive community day with the aim of putting the community at the heart of the engagement programme.
The event was designed to be family friendly with activities relating back to some of the key themes of interest around the scheme such as a community orchard, biodiversity and active travel. This included bug box building and an onsite bike doctor. The resident newsletter could also be folded to create a seed tray.
To make the event more interactive, a video was created in place of exhibition boards, alongside themed roundtable discussions that took place throughout the day.
Outcome
The community focused approach formed part of a wider commitment to engaging with the local community and granting people more ownership and opportunity to meaningfully shape development within their local area.
The plans are currently being reviewed and further consultation will take place following an update on the Local Plan.
