My first month at Grasshopper: by Account executive, Lydia Lisk
“I started at Grasshopper in December last year, as an account executive. My role is to support all departments across the business from stakeholder engagement and public affairs to marketing and campaigns.
“Being a recent graduate and new to the working world, I was inevitably apprehensive on my first day in the office but from the very beginning the whole team has made me feel welcome, supported and involved in the work we do.
“In my first few weeks, I have been plunged into everything from attending consultation events and putting up public notices to media monitoring, supporting the generation of a comms strategy and attending client meetings, not to mention battling my way out of an Escape Room at our Christmas party.
“I have already learned so much in my first month, and it’s great to be applying some of the skills I learned during my degree into the ‘real’ world.
“I have really enjoyed attending consultation events at local community centres across South Wales, as well as one at a BMX racing track. It was great to be able to engage with people from different local communities, from aspiring BMX racers to local historians – all who share the common goal of wanting to contribute to decisions about facilities in their local community.
“I also got stuck in, quite literally stuck in the mud whilst putting up consultation notices near Swansea and almost lost my boot. I learned that informing communities of upcoming consultation events and proposed planning applications is a key part of the consultation process.
“When I’m not out and about engaging with communities, I’m back in the office, undertaking media monitoring, supporting the development of communications strategies and attending client meetings.
“After living and studying in both England and Australia, it has been so nice to come back to Wales and work with communities closer to home. It has been a very insightful and extremely varied past month and I’m really enjoying the diversity of work. Watch this space to see what I get up to next….”
