Hybrid working – minimum of 2 days per week in our Cardiff office.

About Grasshopper:

Grasshopper is an award-winning communications agency with a creative edge and commitment to community engagement. We create campaigns that change attitudes and actions in positive, lasting ways. We help shape conversations about the world around us. Whether it’s active travel, renewable energy or low carbon technologies.

Recently we have been developing our Research and Insight offer, and we have a brilliant opportunity for a Researcher to join the team to help us continue to develop this capability. If you have a knack for making complex data interesting and accessible, and a passion for creating insights that can help make positive impact to the world around you – then we would love to hear from you.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher to help us deliver complex research projects on behalf of clients as well as to develop Grasshopper’s own best
practice insights and knowledge.

You will have expertise in quantitative research methods, with a willingness to round out your skillset. You will be able to effectively engage with stakeholders as well as with people with lived experience. You will have an awareness of Welsh policy and politics, and an enthusiasm to further develop this.

Key responsibilities:

Research and analysis:

  • Collection, management and analysis of quantitative data.
  • Analysis and management of secondary data sets (especially quantitative).
  • Undertaking policy and literature reviews.
  • Data visualisation and presentation.
  • Presenting and reporting findings.
  • Insight and influence.
  • Using evidence to develop practical proposals for change whether it be in policy, legislation, funding or practice.
  • Developing an understanding of Welsh policy and politics and the social, economic and political environment for change and adapting proposals.
  • Help identify key audiences and build effective relationships.

Client management:

  • Demonstrate project management skills, with the ability to help drive projects with tight deadlines and to a high standard, both working alone and with others, sometimes in a rapidly evolving working environment.

Rewards and benefits package:

  • Salary: £28,000-£37,000 full time equivalent depending on experience, and pro rata depending on agreed hours.
  • Annual bonus (subject to company performance).
  • Flexible work approach with core hours 10am-3pm.
  • Two paid days volunteering a year to help your local community.
  • Workplace pension scheme.
  • Training and CPD.

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Relevant work experience such as but not limited to working in central or local government, non-departmental public bodies, consultancy, or think tank or postgraduate research experience (including PhD).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including an ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and persuasively in person and using a variety of writing skills and confidence interacting with clients.
  • A proactive attitude to work, and the ability to identify and help the team capitalise on ideas for impact and opportunities for the company and clients.
  • Ability to use standard Office IT packages as well as learn new software (such as SPSS, JASP or STATA – experience of using R or Python will be advantageous).
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake some travel throughout Wales and UK and to work occasional unsocial hours, sometimes involving overnight stays.
